Les Masters de Feu 2025: Opening, Pacing, and Closing the Grand Final
On September 20, 2025, the Compiègne Racecourse will host the Grand Final of Les Masters de Feu, an event that has grown over the years to become one of Europe’s major pyrotechnic competitions. Before more than 14,000 spectators, several international teams will come to defend their artistry of fire and attempt to claim the supreme title. For ARTEVENTIA, which has supported the event since its inception, this edition represents far more than a simple evening of competition: it is about building a global narrative, from the arrival of the public to the final tableau.
The house thus designs the opening and closing shows—two moments with different functions that nevertheless share the same dramaturgy. The opening must establish the atmosphere, set the tone, and prepare the audience to enter the world of the competition. The closing, meanwhile, must harness the energy accumulated throughout the evening and transform it into a final unifying movement, capable of transcending the competition results alone.
“For an event like the Masters, the opening and closing cannot be thought of as two independent parentheses,” explains Édouard Grégoire, Artistic Director of ARTEVENTIA. “The opening must make people want to step into the evening. The closing, on the contrary, must give the feeling that everything just experienced converges toward a final shared moment.”
This way of conceptualizing the event is woven into the very DNA of Les Masters de Feu. Since 2016, the competition has brought together teams from different pyrotechnic cultures within a deliberately demanding format. Each company has a limited time, a common framework, and a mandatory theme, yet remains free to offer its own musical, visual, and emotional interpretation. What is at stake is not merely a demonstration of power, but a confrontation of sensibilities and styles.
In this context, ARTEVENTIA’s role goes beyond simple technical production. The house provides the overall artistic direction and technical supervision of the event, with the goal of creating a coherent evening despite the diversity of the creative styles presented.
The opening thus becomes a true narrative threshold. Fire, light, and music are designed as the first signs of a universe that will then unfold through the competing performances. The audience is not yet at maximum intensity; the goal is to create anticipation, establish the rhythm, introduce the evening’s visual codes, and gradually prepare the viewer’s gaze.
The closing follows an opposite logic. After several successive shows and dozens of minutes of competition, the challenge lies in rediscovering a collective energy. “At that point, the audience has already seen a great deal. It is not simply about being louder or more spectacular. We must find another way to conclude—something that brings people together and provides the feeling of a true finale.”
This pursuit is all the more important as Les Masters de Feu is simultaneously a competition, a popular celebration, and a gathering for enthusiasts. The show must speak to those who know pyrotechnic products perfectly as well as to those who simply come seeking a profound visual emotion.
This is perhaps where the uniqueness of the event lies. Behind the competition, there remains this simple idea: several teams, several cultures, several ways of looking at music and the sky, united for the duration of a single evening.
For ARTEVENTIA, the opening and closing shows thus become the two anchors of this experience. The first opens the field of possibilities. The second closes the parenthesis.
And between the two, the sky belongs to the competitors.
